Rest & Balance
May 8, 2026
Good Morning, Friends
As I sit here this morning, I feel the weight of everything I’ve taken on — the projects, the dreams, the responsibilities, the people I love and care for. My heart feels crowded, my mind clouded, and my shoulders heavy. I know this feeling well: the burden of too much.
There are so many beautiful things I want to do — Bible studies, writing, designing, creating, baking, caring for my home and family — yet the more I try to hold it all, the more I realize how fragile I am. My spirit whispers, “You can’t do it all.” And God gently answers, “You were never meant to.”
Scripture of the Day
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”
Isaiah 40:29 (NIV)
“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”
1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
Morning Reflection
We often forget that God created us with limits — not as punishment, but as protection. He knows that our hearts, minds, and bodies need rest. When we push beyond those limits, we lose balance, and anxiety begins to take root.
Rest is not laziness. It is obedience. It is trust. It is surrender.
When we rest, we acknowledge that God is in control. We let Him carry what we cannot. We allow His strength to fill the gaps where ours runs out.
Jesus Himself modeled rest. He withdrew to quiet places, not because He was weak, but because He was wise. He knew that renewal comes from stillness — from being alone with the Father.
And just as He invited His disciples to “come away and rest,” He invites us to do the same. To step back. To breathe. To remember that we are not alone in our burdens.
Questions for Reflection
- What areas of my life feel most out of balance right now?
- Where am I trying to carry more than God ever asked me to?
- How can I create space for rest — physically, mentally, and spiritually?
- Who has God placed in my life to help carry the load when it feels too heavy?
- What does true Sabbath rest look like for me in this season?
Prayer
Father,
You see the weight I carry — the responsibilities, the dreams, the worries, the endless to‑do lists. Teach me to rest in You. Help me to release what is not mine to hold. Remind me that balance begins with surrender. Fill me with Your peace and renew my strength. Let me find joy in stillness and purpose in rest.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Truth to Carry
Rest is not stepping away from purpose — it is stepping closer to God.
Berry Burrow Reflection
On our way home from Summertown, we stopped at a little Greek eatery. Behind the counter hung a sign that read, “The will of God will never take you where the grace of God will not protect you.”
That message stayed with me. It reminded me that rest and balance are not found in doing more — they’re found in trusting more. God’s grace is the safety net beneath every leap of faith. His rest is the rhythm that keeps our hearts steady.
So today, I’m choosing to breathe deeply, slow down, and let grace do its work.
