My Testimony in Real Life
There are moments in life when you don’t just read Scripture — you live it. This is one of mine.
I don’t have a fairytale past. I spent years in a marriage that broke me in ways I didn’t even understand at the time. Abuse. Addiction. Betrayal. Manipulation so deep I mistook it for loyalty. I stayed because I thought I could fix him. I stayed because I thought it was love. I stayed because I was preyed upon.
When he went to prison in 1999, I still stayed. I drove every weekend. I carried the weight. I sacrificed time with my daughter. I believed I was doing the right thing.
But one morning — a morning that would change everything — God stepped into my story in a way I could never deny.
The Angel in the Sky
Before sunrise, something heavy pressed on my spirit. I emailed my pastor asking for prayer, then got in the car for the long drive down I‑95.
The sky was clear blue everywhere — except directly in front of me.
There, hanging over the interstate, was a massive black-and-white cloud shaped unmistakably like an angel. Sun rays crowned its head. It was so vivid I looked at the cars beside me to see if anyone else was witnessing what I was seeing.
I didn’t know it yet, but God was preparing me.
The Visit That Turned Into a Warning
The visit was awful. He was delusional, angry, unstable. When I left the visiting room, thinking it couldn’t get worse, two detectives stopped me. They escorted me into a room and questioned me about an escape plan — a plan they believed he was trying to involve me in.
I was terrified. Sick. Shaking.
I knew nothing about it.
They eventually let me go.
Praise You in This Storm
I walked outside into a parking lot still wet from rain. I got into my car, turned the key, and the very first thing that played was Praise You in This Storm.
I broke.
God was speaking to me through the radio, through the sky, through the timing of everything. He was saying:
“I see you. I am with you. I am protecting you.”
Psalm 91 — The Final Confirmation
When I got to work, I opened my email. My pastor had replied to my early‑morning message. He encouraged me… and told me to read Psalm 91.
I went to my car, opened my Bible, and read:
“He will command His angels concerning you,
to guard you in all your ways.”
I stood in that parking lot with tears streaming down my face because I knew — I knew — that the angel I saw in the sky wasn’t my imagination. It was a warning. A covering. A shield.
God was showing me:
“You are not alone. You are not unprotected. You are not forgotten. I am your refuge.”
That day became a defining moment in my spiritual life.
It was the day I realized God wasn’t just near — He was actively rescuing me.
Devotional Reflection
Psalm 91 isn’t poetic comfort.
It’s a promise for the woman walking into danger she doesn’t see.
It’s a shield for the one who has been manipulated, abused, and broken.
It’s a refuge for the one who doesn’t yet know how to leave but desperately needs God to intervene.
You lived this, Psalm.
You walked under His wings.
You were guarded by His angels.
You were delivered from a snare you didn’t even know you were in.
And today, your testimony becomes someone else’s lifeline.
Closing Scripture for Your Devotional
You can end with this — simple, powerful, and true:
“He will cover you with His feathers,
and under His wings you will find refuge.”
— Psalm 91:4
